10 days of exciting multicultural events and activities showcasing the history, cultural diversity and talent of this beautiful port of pearls known as Broome. A world class Festival now in its thirty eighth year in one of Australia’s most unique and spectacular towns, events will include the waking of Sammy the Dragon, touching tributes by remaining pearling legends to the Pearling History, a Float Parade through the historic streets of Chinatown, Mardi Gras concert and Food Festival, Carnival of Nations, Dragon Boat Races, Festival Gala Ball, and an impressive closing ceremony concert culminating in a fireworks display over the town of Broome. In 2008 Shinu Matsuri acknowledges the contribution of the Filipino people in Broome’s historic pearling industry.

Goolarri Media Enterprises has been contracted to project manage the Shinju Matsuri Festival until 2009 and will focus on re-mooring the Festival to its origins by bringing the Festival back to the community as a whole. Goolarri Media’s last successful term managing Shinju Matsuri was from 1997 to 2001.
Goolarri Media will work closely with the Shinju Matsuri Board Working Group, Volunteers and the community to deliver to the town of Broome an exciting 10 days of traditional and contemporary arts, industry, community and tourism events which celebrate the town’s unique culture, history and diversity.
